I and my wife will travel to Switzerland as a tourist if she born a baby during the trip will the baby get Switzerland nationality automatically and shall we the parents get the Switzerland green card in Switzerland ?
Hello there,
Switzerland has no notion of “Jus soli” (the right of Earth, literally).
That is to say that babies born in Switzerland are only born Swiss if they are born to Swiss parents, if married or born to a Swiss mother if the parents are not married. Hence, birth itself does not grant a right to Swiss nationality.
The only way to “become” Swiss is to live (legally) in the country for 12 years and to show familiarity and respect for the Swiss way of life, to show compliance with Swiss law and to present no threat to Switzerland’s internal or external security. Between the ages of 10 and 20, the years spent in Switzerland count double (i.e. a teenager can become Swiss if he/she has lived in the country for 6 years)
Hope this helped,
JPJ
