Finding the perfect professional voice teacher in Singapore is not that simple. That’s because the teacher’s talent in singing isn’t the only thing you’re looking for here. A lot of people can be quite excellent at singing but a failure at instructing how to do it. Teachers who sound nothing like Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston sometimes prove to be outstanding instructors. You just have to know what the qualifications of a good teacher are, then find him/her.
Of course, there’s the importance of talent. Although he/she doesn’t sing like the greatest person in the world, you have to look for certain qualities in the voice. The teacher should have the strength as yours is weak. If you can’t control the power of your voice, a teacher who has great control would be right for you.
The Singapore vocal teacher should be able to teach the style you want to learn. This should be made clear to the possible applicant before you ask him to start the lessons. Impairing your personal style and technique in singing is the one thing you should not do. Ask him if he honestly wants to teach your preferred style, and if he can teach it properly. He must be able to improve on your skills and singing techniques because this is exactly the reason you got his services.
Whether you can be at ease with each other is another vital consideration. It should be both ways since a Singapore voice teacher can’t be at his best if he isn’t relaxed with you. His professionalism would initially prevent you from seeing this so you should feel him out. The same is true with you. You should admire and respect him so you will be inspired to learn. Motivation should come from him and if he can’t do that to you, then you should probably look for somebody else.
Of course, the price of the lessons is the remaining detail before hiring a professional voice teacher. Even if he is the best one around, it would still depend on the budget you have for a voice lesson. The more popular he is, the more likely that his salary is high. You should find the right proportion between talent and budget. One cannot live without the other. I am certain you can get someone who meets your criteria.
When you’re already taking lessons, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The instructor should be able to convert either a terrible sounding voice or one that sounds good already into something that sounds even better. There’s always more to learn every time you meet. Expressing your emotions, a finer technique and proper breathing are some of the things you can learn.
If your teacher doesn’t seem to make any progress with you, it’s time to look for another. This should be apparent to you after about two or three lessons. There should have been progress even if it’s just in one area of your singing. Talk to him and find out whether the cause is really his technique. Your precious time and money should not be thrown away nor should he make justifications. It’s easy to drop a voice teacher, but have good reason for doing it.
