Violin Conc

Can anyone help inspire me please?
For my AP studio art class i have to complete a portfolio as a final. the portfolio consists of 24 pieces, 12 breadth (Which is anything really) and 12 concentration (Which are pieces that all focus around a main theme). My conc. theme is Synesthesia: Here is a link if you don’t know what it is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia
I already have 6 pieces:
Musicians playing a Saxophone, Violin, Harp (all of which you can see the sound of)
a ballerina made up of words
a man with flaming words on his skin
a boy screaming (and you can see the scream as colors)
Im having a hard time thinking of other ideas that focus around this theme. If anyone can help inspire me that would make my life!!! Many thanks!
I like your ideas/images ! Also read up on Synesthesia – difficult to imagine what it would be like for us ‘linear sensors’. Anyway, gave it a lot of thought & here are my ideas. You can use just one element or a combination/mixture, add your own details to make it more meaningful, …..
– A person at the breakfast table where pancakes look like the sun & a bowl of porridge like the moon. The silverware could be stars.
– A surrealistic mixture of sense organs, nerve connections [some active, some passive], stimuli, responses, sensations …
One way of depicting this could also be to have, eg, eyes at the end of one’s fingers/palms [sight activated when touch is used] ; fingers or touch corpuscles in place of ears [tactile sensations thru' audio stimuli]; & so on.
– “Cross-wiring” [synesthesia reminds me of cross-connections]. You can show a multitude of wires/cables (neurons/nerve pathways), each representing one main sensation, criss-crossing to the control centre (brain)…. eg. the optic nerve made up of musical notes ; letters/numbers making up the wire that leads from visual colors ; rods & cones or colors emanating from ear ; ….
– A blind person, listening to music [you can show the kind of music thru' a CD cover title lying around...], ‘Feeling’ the music thru’ his entire body & culminating in a splash of colors on canvas, in tune with the music/song. Or, instead of using a brush to paint, his/her fingers are “releasing” the colors on to the canvas.
Hope these inspire?
All the very best & have fun ![]()
I enjoyed thinking about, & answering this Q.
