Upholding History, Preserving Vinyl Records
An aficionado, normally, must know as much things regarding vinyl or LP records. Whether you have rock vinyl, Blues vinyl and other music kind, you will not be able to treasure it totally unless you comprehend how it came about. The vitality of saving records could transform the fortune of someone owing to the remarkable value these possess.
Historical approach to vinyl and LP records
Peter Goldmark developed the LP record in 1948. The earliest 33 1/3 rpm LP record was announced primarily in Columbia by June 1948. The flash and disco wave of the 1980s still indicated LPs as the most recorded and extremely popular music setup. The sales on the other hand fallen until 1983 due to the development of different formats like cassette tapes.
Enthusiasts may have moved to other arrangements but unluckily, the recordings did not. Roughly 57 percent of music recordings between the year 1950 and 1964 are reissued to other formats like CDs. LP is worth the effort of keeping and could be attributed to music that is recorded totally in this format.
Development of restoration
Due to durability, LPs are relatively simpler to keep in contrast with other music formats of these days like DVDs, CDs and MP3 files.
Being made of polyvinyl chloride, it the copolymer bonds with vinyl acetate that gives rise to internal plasticization. It would only degrade upon release of hyrdrochloric acid because of heat exposure but because of certain chemicals, the process could be delayed. It is not as tough to do but the record labels are another issue.
Storing the labels in sites that are not accessed by vermin, other insects and environment conditions is best. Though vinyl records are usually easier to preserve and in contrast to other record arrangements, the truth is that they are not unbreakable so appropriate storing is imperative.
How to preserve your LPs
- LPs should be kept at a storage temperature that ranges from 65-70 degrees.
- Average humidity must only play around 45-50 percent.
- Environment conditions must not fluctuate by plus or minus 10 degrees or by plus or minus 10 percent humidity in a 24 hour period.
- The ultraviolet rays of the sun could detriment the vinyls thus they need to be recorded in a shady place.
- Paper sleeves must be removed and must be changed with polyethylene jackets.
- Records could be damaged further when they have shrink coverings therefore these should be removed.
- When touching the record, the playing surface must not be stroked and tidy hands are a necessity.
Digitizing the record should be a component of your plan to have a backup of the vinyl records.
