What does “lighter fare” mean in the following news? Does it mean “at the low price of addmission”?
Di Stefano excelled at lighter fare, such as Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Bohéme” and the Duke in Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” the role in which he made his Met debut in 1948.

I believe it means that he excelled at lesser roles. Unfortunately, I’m not cultured and have not had the privilege of seeing either of those two plays (though I know that they’re absolutely marvelous), but to me, “lesser fare” screams “lighter roles.” He has smaller parts, and he did much better with those lesser roles than with major or starring ones.
