Tchaikovsky Violin

Suhwasaeng: Can you play Tchaikovsky: violin cocnerto D- Major op.35? For me it will be imposible unreacheble?
Good heavens, no.
I’ve heard that Tchaikovsky composed that concerto for Leopold Auer.
Auer rejected it on the grounds that it was impossible.
But then, one of Auer’s students learned to play it, whereupon Auer learned to play it.
I have wondered what changed Auer’s mind.
Was Auer embarrassed because one of his students learned to play the concerto after he said it was impossible?
Or did the student’s demonstration merely convince him that it was possible?
The hardest concerto I ever played well was the Bach E major concerto.
A few years ago, I tried to learn to play the Beethoven concerto and gave up on it.
By and large, I’ve laid my violin aside,
because I’m more interested in composing.
If you are a diligent violin student, you are most likely better at it than I am.
