Swept Away

Why do we get swept away by philosophic rhetorics instead of applying hard rational logic to reach conclusions?
Similarly, we seem to think that a well-known Quote is a Gospel truth.
I am pretty sure there will be a few rhetoric answers here too.
Thank you all….. so many good answers from various angles!!
Good question ! This is not a good analogy , but Dr. Joseph Goebbels used to say that if a false statement is told again and again thousands of times , people start thinking it is truth ! Similarly we get swept away by not only philosophical rhetoric but by idioms , quotes and phrases and never apply logic , rational thinking to these convectional sayings. It is just the impact of recurrant and repetitive use of these quotes and rhetorics which get encarved in our brain and form a very static image. So rather than evaluating or assessing any thought at intellectual and logical level , which is not supposed to have any preconceived notion or a bias associated with it, we go by the static image which is stagnant and permanent and therefore cannot change our view.
But there are quotes and rhetorics which are contradictory to each other and confusing, but that could be another question !
