Happy Birthday Barry Gibb! What are your favorite Bee Gees songs?
Happy 65th Barry, I’ve rarely if ever seen them mentioned in this forum, so here goes..
Along with his brothers Maurice and Robin, he was a member of one of the most successful vocal groups in rock n’ roll history. Barry was best known for his signature high pitched falsetto vocals.
Apart from The Bee Gees, he’s written and produced numerous hits for Barbara Streisand (“Woman in Love”, “Guilty”, “What Kind of Fool”), Diana Ross (“Chain Reaction”), Frankie Valli (“Grease”), Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers (“Islands in the Stream”).
My favorite peiod of The Bee Gees was that of the late 60′s. From this period, came many well crafted hamony rich songs including my favorite, “New York Mining Disaster 1941″.

that is just 50 out of hundreds of great song they wrote and played, and never to get mentioned on here that often is a shame.
Do you think because the Bee Gees had their own TV show before they became world famous would be a reason they don’t get much air time here on R&P. Is that not like a lot of other bands that get bad raps for starting their careers on TV. Just thought I would ask. But I know that is not why they are so great.
Popularly believed to have hailed from Australia, the Bee Gees were actually born in England, Barry [born Douglas] on the Isle Of Man in 1947, and the twins, Maurice and Robin, in Manchesster in 1949. The brothers began performing as the Blue Cats at an early age, continuing their musical act when they family emigrated to Australia in 1958. After debuting on Brisbane’s ABCTV channel, the Gibbs wn their own weekly tV series and the “Bee Gees” quickly became the favorite group of Australia’s teens and preteens. Thie first single, “Three Kisses Of Love,” was released by Festival Records in 1963 and made the top 20 in Australia, to be followed by a number of hit singles over the next few years. Returning to England in 1967, the group signed with Robert Stigwood of NEMS, adding drummer Colin Peterson to their group and having a sell-out debut at the Saville Theatre in London.
Great band and very underrated. So Sad.
take care

Guilty $4.41 Guilty may well be Barbra Streisand’s best pop album. At the peak of her late-’70s popularity, she hooked up with the Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb, who himself was basking in his Saturday Night Fever glow. Gibb wrote and produced most of the material on 1980′s Guilty, and he supplied background vocals as well as co-leads on two tracks. The results are still completely bewitching. “Promises,” for instance,… |

Barbra Streisand – A Collection: Greatest Hits…and More $4.10 The years 1975-1988 contained big successes for Barbra Streisand, though she ran through an unsteady gauntlet of disco-fied pop and pseudo-Broadway show stoppers. This collection, originally released in 1989, brings together the hits of those years–like the two Barry Gibb duets, “What Kind of Fool” and “Guilty”–in a range of production scenarios utilizing the talents of Rupert Holmes, Andrew Llo… |
