How difficult would you say these piano pieces are?
How difficult would you say the following pieces are?
1) Chopin’s Fantasie-Impromptu
2) Stravinsky’s Three Movements from Petrouchka
3) Beethoven’s Appassionata
Yes, I asked a similar question before, about whether the pieces (except for the Beethoven, I chose to discard Rage Over a Lost Penny as it seemed too easy and replace it with Appassionata) are appropriate for college auditions.
I’ve finally settled on these three pieces (I can play the Impromptu and the Three Movements from Petrouchka, and I’m currently learning Appassionata) to play for my audition; I ask this question so I can get a better idea of what order to play the pieces.
Yes they are all high level pieces, and a good choice too, for variety, although you might want to consider putting in a baroque piece or even mozart to show your musical ability to play the subtle delicate aspects of music (i would consider the Beethoven Appassionata as more romantic than classical)
With the Chopin, be careful to play it very well, as despite being technically very difficult, to play it well and very musically it is extremely difficult (i’ve played it before and was only able to note-bash, all the notes are there with dynamics, but no real phrasing/expression). If you pull it off, it will be very impressive.
