Are there old latin america chants that people would do to drive off spirits?

We had an incident in our house awhile back that coincided with our mexican neighbors having a birthday party where the women were doing some kind of chants, supposedly, I’m guessing, these were to ward off spirits or some kind of blessing for protecting their family.
Our house must have got caught in the crossfire and we witnessed a “disturbance” that was every bit like something out of a movie.
