How do you improvise something for piano solo in a jazz music?
I play piano for my high school jazz band. I can read music perfectly, but I am having trouble in improvising for the solo in the middle of the song. Can you help me?
1. Start with the melody, and then make small changes to it. Try playing the melody over and over, changing it in a different way each time. Then try making more changes. Practice this over and over. Eventually you’ll have something entirely new.
2. Find recordings of the song and listen to how other musicians solo over ot- not just pianists, but ALL musicians. Copy what they do, and try to add your own ideas.
