lets say you tried to run in to the place he was guarding when youre not supposed to?
waved a gun about?
waved a knife about?
attacked someone?
attacked the guardsmen?
would he just give you a good shooting in those situations? would he use his fists? is he even permitted to shoot you?
household cavalry same kind of thing but would he cut you up with his sword?
i have to say id love to be a guardsmen and some muhammad ran into buckingham palace and i blew his brains out. or some chav trying to play a joke with a bb gun.
also how many guards are protecting the queen at any given time?

Actually,the Guards at Buckingham Palace ARE really armed. They aren’t like The Old Guard here in the States. Those rifles they carry are real and they do carry two clips of ammo on their belt and a bayonet along with the clip inside the weapon.

If you ever get the chance to see them in real life,or on video,notice two guys in back of the marching band with backpacks. These guys are radiomen who carry a special Secret Service type microphone in one hand and are connected to law enforcement and military channels in case they are ever attacked on the street. Not only do they guard Buckingham Palace but also King James Palace as well where there are many high level government and military officials along with offices frequented by members of the royal family.
On top of that,Scotland Yard has a special branch of patrol and mounted police who are specially trained as back up in case of attack or if they are needed to rush the royal family to safety and out of harms way.
