Ron Carter Automotive Center: What To Do If You Break Down
Preventative maintenance and routine service visits will go a long way toward preventing a break-down. Unfortunately, despite your best efforts there may come a time when mechanical problems result in a break-down. As luck would have it, this usually happens at the worst possible time and place. Here at Ron Carter Automotive Center, we want all drivers to know what to do if their car breaks down to remain safe until help arrives.
Do not attempt to drive- Finding yourself stuck in a parking lot or other location is no picnic, however it is much better than breaking down along the highway. If your vehicle starts but doesn’t seem quite right, be on the safe side and stay put. The Ron Carter team encourages drivers to become familiar with the signs that your vehicle needs to be serviced. Service lights or other indicators that something is wrong should be heeded. Strange noises, vibrations and any other oddities could indicate a pending problem.
Get to a safe place- Much worse than a car that doesn’t start is one that stops while you are driving. This is especially dangerous on highways where heavy traffic poses its own threat. At Ron Carter Ford, we remind drivers to get as far off the shoulder of the road as possible, leaving as much space between your vehicle and passing motorists allowable.
Be aware of your surroundings- Many accidents and injuries happen after a driver gets their vehicle off of the road way. Whether you are attempting to go for help or fix your vehicle yourself, it is imperative to always be aware of your surroundings. Passing motorists may not see your vehicle or may become distracted looking in your direction.
