Musicians: Forming a Band w/My Brother. Any Advice?
I’m a 21 y/o F and I’m forming a band with my 23 y/o brother. We’re hoping to form a 4 or 6 piece band. My brother plays guitar, piano/keyboards, and mandolin. I play bass and guitars. We both sing. We’ve been jamming together for years, but now that I can play in bars, we’re moving forward. We’re gonna focus on 90s & 2000s rock and some classic rock.
My question is this. You hear about how some rock sibling relationships have gone sour. Chris and Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes have had their problems. Ray and Dave Davies of the Kinks have had a legendary love/hate relationship. Liam and Noel Gallahger from Oasis? They never want to see each other again.
I like my brother. I want to continue liking him. How can we avoid the feuding that other sibling bands have gone through? Are there any sibling bands that have worked out well?
You do not need to be a good player to get signed.
1. Good equipment (including PA)
2. Have a long songlist (know the songs all the way through) (including originals)
3. Be someone that everyone looks forward to working with
4. Don’t date the same people as your bandmates
5. Don’t date your bandmates
6. Make sure that someone in your band is a great salesman/businessman
