Slipknot Music – Listening To Raw Aggression
Without a doubt, the artists behind Slipknot merch and albums are responsible for creating a highly controversial but well known band. Although most famous bands do figure out in some kind of controversy at one point or another, conflict and controversy seems to have actively followed the members of this group.
The year 1995 marked the birth of the band. It was spearheaded by Shawn Crahan and Paul Gray who were its first official members. The start already bore signs that the group wasn’t all too good at getting things organized. Other bands limited membership number but this group had a total of 13 members with up to 9 of them playing at the same time. Clearly, with too many artists on stage and on the studios, there was always a greater possibility of trouble brewing.
Aside from having a lot of members on board, the band was also initially criticized for their musical style which was said to be so extreme that it could not be replicated outside of a studio. Recording studios stayed away from the group at first so Slipknot music was first produced by band members themselves at what was rumored to be a costly forty thousand dollars.
The band finally received its first record deal with Roadrunner Records in 1998. In 1999, they were finally able to release their self-titled debut album which in 2000 became their label’s first platinum release. The successful first work was followed in 2001 by goth clothing merch and Iowa. This second album was as well received as the first one but the following year almost saw the band fall apart as internal conflicts pushed them to go on hiatus.
The group did not come out until 2004 with Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). In about another year however, the band already took a second break. The year 2006 saw them together again to receive a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. This ushered in a fourth album, All Hope is Gone which came out in 2008. After this, the members took yet again another hiatus. This long time apart was punctuated by the death of Gray in 2010 due to an overdose.
Critics say there seems to be no future for more Slipknot albums. This is more so because even before Gray died, the band was already at the center of many controversies. Perhaps the lightest of these issues focus on the band member’s stage identities and appearances. Each member has his own mask and jumpsuit and performs under a number alias. Members say this is just who they really are but music experts say otherwise, preferring to treat the stage personas as commercial stunts meant to generate more album sales.
More serious controversies have been thrown at the group. Perhaps the most serious of these are the crimes that band fans may have perpetrated under the influence of the group’s songs. In other words, some sources claim that the aggressive songs of Slipknot were so psychologically suggestive that criminal acts were performed because of them. Even so, no legal actions have been taken against the band.
It’s hard to tell if Slipknot music truly has a psychologically hypnotic element to them. Since there aren’t any new albums out, there haven’t been any instances of truant behavior associated with listening to the group’s music.
