Uncovered on Youtube in which she has thousands of subscribers and over one million views, seventeen year old singer/songerwriter Anna Craig is pleased to have her first release with Expat Records. The distant cousin to Tammy Wynette, Anna has a distinctive, potent voice in her own petite 5′ 3″ frame. She has actually been termed “Taylor Underwood.” Her lyrics come from the heart of a teenager, including songs concerning teen relationships like “In Disguise” and “The Secret”, to the tearful plea for a sweetheart to safely come home from Afghanistan in “Come Back Home”, to the lively “Slow Down”, Anna boasts a sound that will be savored for many years to come.
“Youtube is admittedly the place it all started off for me,” Anna reveals. “I filmed a cover of Taylor Swift’s Picture to Burn. I continued playing more and more covers, and began doing a little of my own tracks. I totally try to remember when I was so excited to have a hundred fans. I’m so shocked now I have thousands! It’s crazy! But that is how I actually got going. A producer, Chris Via, stumbled across my video clips and persuaded me to put together some tracks. And Expat Records found them. And here I am!”
Without question , Anna says the musician who most influenced her sound is Taylor Swift. “I love Taylor! I could listen to her songs all day,” Anna stated. “I also adore Carrie Underwood. She performs vocally complicated songs, and I think all singers aspire to do that.” Anna’s style incorporates the style of both Swift and Underwood. As a writer, Anna, like Taylor Swift, really likes crafting songs pertaining to adolescent relationships. Like Carrie Underwood, Anna loves to integrate musically-demanding notes and chord progressions in her music, too. In her premier cd, Anna accomplished both. “Many my songs were regarding my boyfriend at the time,” Anna reports with a chuckle. “In Disguise” is about how the grass is not always greener on the other side of the hill. A lot of times the best boy for a girl is immediately under her nose. She just doesn’t necessarily recognise him for just who he is.
“The Secret” is related to getting a crush on a boy in class. Will Anna get up the nerve to let him know her secret? At the other end of a relationship is the track “Everywhere I Go,” within which Anna sings about the way in which everywhere she goes she is reminded of the fun she had with her boyfriend.
Almost certainly the track that tugs at the heartstrings beyond the others is “Come Back Home.” It is about a girl hoping that her beau, who is departing to Afghanistan, might not simply fight for his country, but he will also safeguard himself. More than anything, she simply wishes him to come back home. Commenting on the tune, Anna reveals, “My boyfriend was looking into joining the armed forces whenever he got out of school. I began considering what that would feel like and it didn’t take me very long to compose ‘Come Back Home.’”
If her very first recording is any clue, the country music sphere are going to be hearing and seeing a lot more out of Anna Craig.
