i live in the texas hill country and this tree is rare i think ,very long cross like thorns?

i have lived all my live in the hill country and have never seen anything like it

It sounds like Honey Locust. Very nasty thorns, but deer, cattle and horses all seem to enjoy the locust beans they produce. They are very sweet. Here is some more info:
