How To Live In A Tiny Home

Once upon a time, kings and queens built large castles and peasants lived in little huts. Nowadays, you can find humongous homes all over the world occupied by your average Sue of Joe. And, you can also find people from all walks of life, deciding that space is not what they need and making their homes in tiny apartments and houses.

These tiny homes are all over the place. Certainly in large cities like Tokyo and New York where space is at a premium, you can find many minute living spaces. People who choose to live in an urban area often have to settle for having less space than those who live rurally. However, sometimes, especially as we become more environmentally conscious, there are those that are choosing to live in tiny homes.

Recently, a man chose to spend his four years at university in a van in order to save money. There is a company called Tumbleweed Tiny House Company that makes and markets homes ranging from 65 to 837 square feet at the largest. You can find loft spaces in New York City that are comparable to that size as well and ones in Tokyo even smaller.

Why live in a tiny home? There are actually many reasons. Three main things come to mind which are, saving the environment, easy of maintenance and of course, cost. You save tons of time and money on regular cleaning, for instance. In a larger home you may go through numerous vacuums but in a tiny home, especially if you get a top of the line like the Dyson upright vacuum cleaner, you’ll have the place dirt free in a jiffy and probably never have to purchase another vacuum again.

There are many ways to make your tiny home more comfortable and even seem larger than it is. Many interior designers will make use of every inch of space and, there are websites and books dedicated to helping you do this yourself as well. You can contract a carpenter to make furniture that is multi-purpose like a sofa that has book shelves in the back. Also, save money on central heating because if you get a small top of the line heater like the Delonghi space heater, you will heat your whole home quite easily.

You don’t necessarily have to buy the best all the time. In fact, there are things you should not spend too much on. How many dinner parties do you think you’ll hold in a tiny home. Not many, right? So, why spend on the best steel cook wear when you can get a nice anodized cookware set that works for any occasion for less money?

No, not all people are cut out for tiny home living. In fact, many would go crazy without their precious space. But, if you do fit the mold and the home, you can save quite a bit of money and even save the environment. Plus, you may actually find it quite a refreshing change.
