Pop Up Trundle Beds – Why Do We Need These?
Pop up trundle beds have become and essential item in a very short space of time. It is not that long since they were an expensive accessory which most families considered unnecessary. Now, it seems that every family has one, an amazing marketing success.
So what is so great about a popup trundle bed? Firstly you have to understand that a trundle bed can be either under a standard bed or under a day bed. This means that they are very versatile, fitting just as well in a living area as in a bed room.
The trundle gets its name because it is on wheel and it is supposed to easily ‘trundle’ in and out from its hiding place. Unfortunately with the early designs there were often problems with the wheels and they tended to require quite a bit of pushing and shoving to get them in and out. I would imagine, if my experiences are anything to go by that there were a lot of bruised fingers during the early days. This problem did however get resolved and they are now much more smooth running.
The next development of the trundle was the pop up mechanism. Originally the trundle was pulled out and the guest effectively slept in a drawer on the floor. Better than just on the floor, but only by degrees. However, with the development of the pop up it meant that you guests would feel that they were actually sleeping on a proper bed.
The pop up also added another dimension to the possibilities of the trundle. You could now raise the extra mattress to the same height as the standard bed, and by putting these together you could create a double bed. This was a great development as suddenly a decent sized bed for two people could be created without much stress in a living area. It also meant that when adults came to stay a kids room could be converted from a single bed room to a double to better accommodate guests.
Parents also quickly realised that this was the most convenient way to accommodate your kids friends for sleep overs as well. By pushing the trundle and attaching it to the standard bed, you can easily sleep three of four younger kids across the bed; a significantly easier option than blowing up airbeds.
So suddenly, and I mean almost over night, pop up trundle beds became a family essential which most parents simply couldn’t live without.
