Hairspray is the story of a lively child named Tracy Turnblad, a hopeful performer who wishes to earn a position on a local telly show named the Corny Collins Show. The programme is actually based on a Baltimore-based television programme referred to as the Buddy Dean Show in Baltimore, Maryland.
Tracy is unfamiliar in the dancing industry when she auditions, despite this she is selected for one of the performing positions & against considerably long odds turns out to be a dancing celebrity virtually overnight. Tracy is glad with this brand new reputation, and she comes to the decision to use her status to make positive improvements to the TV show. The key cause for these positive improvements relates to race. Tracy wants to racially fuse the program, and as anybody can imagine, Tracy is confronted with plenty of antagonism
Hairspray arrived at the West End in two-thousand and seven, opening for press at the Shaftesbury Theatre on October 11, before being unveiled to the general public at its certified opening on October thirtieth, two thousand and seven. The play has featured some famous actors — Michael Ball plays Edna Turnblad, Tracy’s very own mother, providing a wonderful interpretation in this challenging female character, whilst Mel Smith played joke shop manager Wilbur Turnblad, Tracy’s father. The original cast in the West End features newcomer to the theatre arena, Leanne Jones, in the leading part of Tracy.
Hairspray the musical has received lots of encouraging comments from reporters and show enthusiasts alike. Jacqueline stated: “I have been to the show 4 times to date & I will surely be going back again next week and a few more times after that as well. I love the theatre show and wish they could stay on much longer. Ben Ellis is incredible as link & Leanne Jones as Tracey & Michael Ball, well they are all wonderful. The show hairspray is unquestionably my favourite, mainly because it is cheerful and if you’re feeling a bit unhappy then it is certain to make you feel a whole lot happier. I definitely give it a 10 out of ten – I love it well done everyone.
