Any suggestions, I want to learn to play jazz trumpet by myself?
I bought a Yamaha trumpet and an instructional DVD in early 2008, tried for two months and stopped. I could play a couple notes for very beginning stuff. I don’t want to quit. All this started when I listened to jazz and was inspired, to have fun and be able to express jazz with an instrument. I will love to be able to play any phrases of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue.
Great. I play trumpet also and know how it is when you first start. I say you must,thats must get together with a live trumpet teacher and a good one who will help you with the basics, which are the embouchure(never use the smile embouchure) breath control and music theory(scale,chords and how they are formed) When you get the good instruction from a live instructor you will understand better how to play music on the trumpet. Tell your teacher you want to play Jazz like Miles Davis All Blues and that will give him the direction you want your playing to go.
