If Emily Dickenson were to meet Edgar Allen Poe in modern times, where do you think they would meet?
For my English class, we constantly need to write scenes to be preformed. Our latest assignment is to write a scene in which Emily Dickenson meets Edgar Allen Poe. It is supposed to be set in modern times and we need to make the two of them talk based on their own personalities and ways of life. My only problem is: I don’t know where to set it.
They can be married or anything. We pretty much have creative freedom.
Does anyone have any ideas where to set this scene?
To be authentic, he would have to visit her at her home in Amherst, Massachusetts. After the age of 28, she did not leave the grounds of her home. She did meet people within her home, although sometimes she would speak to them only around a corner.
She did love the garden, so they could meet there. She was familiar with Poe’s poetry, and such a meeting is a very exciting idea. Good luck.
