American Idol 7: Top 5 Performances, Live Thoughts
On the recent episode of FOX’s American Idol season 7, the top five finalists each performed two songs from Neil Diamond. Below is a recap of the episode.
Jason Castro, the 20-year-old contestant from Rowlett , Texas , sang “Forever in Blue Jeans” and “September Moon.” Randy said it was okay but definitely not the best. Paula said she thought both songs were safe and told Jason to get out of his comfort zone. Simon commented it was purely forgettable.
David Cook chose to sing “I’m Alive” and “All I Really Need Is You”. Randy said it was blazing and added that he’s a huge David Cook fan that night. Paula sais she felt she was already looking at the American Idol, while Simon described his arrangement as smart and well done. Cook is 25 years old and hails from Tulsa , Oklahoma .
Twenty-four-year-old Brooke White of Van Nuys , California performed “I’m a Believer” and “I Am I Said”. Randy said she did a nice job, Paula said her performance showed her vulnerability and Simon said her second song was a million times better than the first song.
Salt Lake City, Utah bet David Archuleta did a rendition of “Sweet Caroline” and “ America ”. Randy said Archuleta was definitely in the zone. Paula, on the other hand, said she wanted to see the joy, the spirit, the prodigy and the little savant she used to see. Simon said the song choice was clever. Archuleta is 17 years old.
Syesha Mercado’s songs were “Hello Again” and “Thank the Lord for the Nighttime”. Randy liked it and said Syesha was finally realizing who she is. Paula said the softness in her voice makes her a toss-up between Corinne Bailey Rae and Minnie Riperton. Randy said she demonstrated her being a good actress and singer but also told Syesha that she may be in trouble. Syesha is 21 and comes from Miami , Florida .

In addition to her own songs, Riperton also makes light work … |
