Michel Legrand

What are your favorite piano songs?
Now, I don’t mean songs that have a little bit of piano in them, but rather ones that feature it. Vocals are okay. Try to get a top-5 list, and if you can, see if you can provide links. And try to mix up the genres too, if you can: sometimes hearing great piano in a trance song or whatever is just way more interesting than hearing it in a classical one. Also, it doesn’t have to be classic piano–it can be synthesized. They don’t have to be in any particular order.
My 5:
-Windmills of Your Mind/Moulins de Mon Coeur – Michel Legrand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnJWtUfHH-o
-Walking in the Air – George Winston. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTvpsbZJo-0
-Videotape – Radiohead (Thom Yorke). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kCKob1YKOU
-Corridors of Time – zohar002. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSgst7Pq7w4
-Claire de Lune – Debussy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlvUepMa31o
Enjoy, now post yours.
Thanks

Summer of ’42 $19.98 Herman Raucher’s autobiographical (or first person, anyway) coming-of-age tale is set, as the title suggests, among sand dunes and departing GIs. Hermie (Gary Grimes) and his two buddies Oscar (Jerry Hauser) and the nerdy Benjie (Oliver Conant) are spending the summer doing the things preadolescents do: hanging out, eating ice cream, stealing “dirty” books from their parents, and trying unsuccess… |

Micmacs [Blu-ray] $11.99 Jean-Pierre Jeunet makes movies like a mad scientist: a bit of this and a bit of that, comedy and horror, charm and madness–et voilà, an Amélie or Very Long Engagement is born. So it’s quite appropriate that the central troupe in Micmacs is an eccentric band of tinkerers, toolsmiths, and circus folk; these are Jeunet’s kind of people, and putting them together in odd combinations is his lab exp… |

Vivre sa Vie (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] $23.98 Jean-Luc Godard and the French New Wave were at the height of their power and creativity when Godard released Vivre Sa Vie (Living Her Life) in 1962. And watching it again, years later, instantly transports one to the era where an offhand remark, a lazy circle of cigarette smoke, a sidelong glance, a disaffected “I don’t care about you” could all communicate deep, conflicted longing, alienation, p… |

The Other Side of Midnight $10.47 An over-the-top film co-starring a young and gorgeous Susan Sarandon, The Other Side of Midnight is a deliciously melodramatic adaptation of Sidney Sheldon’s sweeping (and often schlocky) novel of the same name. Released theatrically in 1977, the film focuses on the intermingling lives of sexily innocent Noelle (Marie-France Pisier), who has a brief affair with a cad named Larry (John Beck), who e… |
