Vacations In The Seaside Town Of Scarborough, England
The United Kingdom is renowned for its seaside resorts that include quirky postcards, stag and hen parties, fish and chips and other convenience foods and kiss-me-quick hats. In the last few decades only the resorts of Brighton and Blackpool have retained their popularity as increasingly more UK folk travel to warmer countries for their yearly vacation. However just a few resorts in Great Britain seem to be trying to to regain their position within the British tourism industry. In the article which follows I take a look at Scarborough a popular English seaside resort.
Scarborough is definitely the oldest seaside resort in England having been spoken about in a publication which was published in the 1660s, which made a mention of the medical advantages of a nearby spa. The spa continues to be existence to this day and it is found in South Bay. Today called the Scarborough Spa Complex it, not unlike many other visitor attractions, has reinvented itself and now provides a wide range of leisure facilities and also catering for company events and weddings.
In many ways the resort has managed to display itself as a superb blend of the new and the historic. Keeping many of its Victorian spa and seaside enchantment the town currently advertises itself as a creative arts and digital industries centre. More and more structures are being updated and brought bang up to date and even an old style museum is now a specially designed space for artists. Enhancing this contemporary approach to tourism you can now have free access to a wi-fi Internet connection all along the harbour’s promenade.
Altogether this rather daring method has resulted in a wonderful family focused vacation destination with loads of attractions which are family friendly including a number of fantastic museums and galleries, parks and gardens, theme parks and a pretty good selection of historic buildings. With an impressive shoreline and wonderful countryside it’s little marvel that the seaside resort also provides plenty of opportunities for sports activities and the sport of surfing is rapidly increasing in popularity.
Scarborough art galleries and museums include the following galleries, Grosmont Gallery & Jazz Cafe, Scarborough Art Gallery, South Street Gallery and Crescents Arts and the following museums, The Rotunda Museum, Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life, Millenium and Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum.
Places of natural beauty, gardens and parks to visit include; The Bridestones, Hazelhead Lake, The Walled Garden at Scampston and The Crosscliff Estate as well as Peasholm Park and Peasholm Island. Places of historical interest include Scarborough Castle, Ebberston Hall, Peak Alum Works and Scampston Hall. You may also find the following interesting, All Saints Church, Church of St-Martin-on-the-Hill, The Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul and Church of St Mary.
Most probably the most popular family visitor attraction in Scarborough is the amazing Sea Life Centre however other family visitor attractions to visit include; Terror Tower, Kinderland, Atlantis and Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo but also several other animal and wildlife visitor attractions including, Grainary Wildlife Farm, Moorland Trout Farms and Betton Farm.
