Classical/ ethnic music of Italy?
I am looking for music that is purely insturmental (or maybe with lyrics) but im interested in the sound heard in the back ground of the song “those were the days” sung by mary hopkin.
im not sure what era im talking about, or if its even italian, im just looking for the very ethnic music, if you could help with my little detail, thanks so much.
Those Were The Days was from the 1960′s.
The instruments in the background may have been Balilakas, which are mainly Greek and Russian. The instrument has a triangular body and three strings.
For early music there is a lot of Renaissance and Florentine music around on CD. This covers 1450 to 1650. There is also music by Vivaldi, and loads of other composers. Handel spent time in Italy and composed a lot of music when there.
For more ‘modern’ Italian classsical music there is Respighi, who had an interest in early Italian music and composed the Ancient Aires and Dances suite.
