Did you see that Puccini’s opera ‘Madame Butterfly’ might be racist?
We wanted to do our show right here in the barn but the farmer said ‘Hamlet’ might offend his pigs. Ham? Pig? Curtain.
Well, “racist” did not have the same ultra-mediated meaning as it has now, it was kind of natural, and it was more xenophobia than racism.
