Falling In Reverse, Escape the Fate
Avenged Sevenfold, – pretty bad
Green Day, – not as bad as the haters say, but not good either
Megadeth, – poor man’s Metallica
Aerosmith, – boring
Bullet for my Valentine, – pretty bad
Disturbed, – kid stuff
AFI, – kid stuff
Atreyu, – don’t know ‘em
Bon Jovi, – band for girls
Default, – never listened
Metallica, – first few albums were good, then they sucked
Rise Against, – kid stuff
Weezer, – had 2 good albums and some…er, not-so-good ones…
Iron Maiden, – cartoony, but if you like metal, they’re OK
Muse, – yawn
Dream Theater, – dumbed-down “prog” rock
Hedley, – never heard them
Nirvana, – very good and influential, but not so fun to listen to anymore
Fall Out Boy, – yuck
A Day To Remember, – yuck
Black Veil Brides, – yuck
RUSH, – good for precisely 3 songs per album
Jimmy Eat World, – better than Fall Out Boy, I guess
Stone Sour, – never heard them
Gob, – never heard them
Trivium, – pop thrash; kid’s stuff
Protest The Hero, – never heard ‘em
Killswitch Engage, – never heard ‘em
Dragonforce, – another cartoon, but at least they are in on the joke
Red Hot Chili Peppers, – ran out of steam in the 90′s, were good for awhile
Queens of the Stone Age, – dull
Rage Against the Machine, – kinda silly, but they have their moments
Social Distortion, – also had their moments, but not recently
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, – yuck
Shinedown, – never heard ‘em
Good Charlotte, – yuck
Motley Crue, – really cheesy, but can be fun for one or two songs
Soundgarden, – the 3rd or 4th best Seattle grunge band of the early 90′s. Maybe 5th…
Foo Fighters, – Epitomizes what is wrong with mainstream rock today. Bland and dull.
Silverstein, – never heard them
Alice in Chains – the 2nd or 3rd best Seattle non-grunge band of the early 90′s. Maybe 4th
Well… If my music collection were swapped out for yours, I’d be very, very unhappy. Very kid-oriented, definitely not much ‘soul’, not a lot of challenging or innovative stuff… For me: 2.8/10
But if that is what you like, then listen to it all you want. You don’t need our validation for it. You probably would dislike most of my favorite bands, too.
I left my baby

Jazz Casual – Jimmy Rushing [VHS] $9.79 Jimmy Rushing (often called “Mr. Five by Five,” a reference to his rather rotund dimensions) was a Kansas City blues shouter best known for his 15-year stint with Count Basie’s big band. Thus his solo appearance on Ralph J. Gleason’s Jazz Casual TV program is a genuine rarity. And the accent is certainly on the “casual.” Rushing is obviously delighted to be here; an affable, garrulous raconteur, … |

Brubeck & Rushing (Reis) $11.98 An odd pairing on a couple of counts. First, there’s the discrepancy between the innate swing of Jimmy Rushing’s phrasing and Brubeck’s notorious stiffness. (In one off-kilter moment, the singer exclaims “tell the truth, man… play it, home!” behind the pianist’s ultraterse, bluesless, soft-pedaled solo on “Blues in the Dark.”) Second, there’s Rushing’s enormous, rough-textured voice juxtaposed a… |
