what happens to kinetic energy of a falling rock when the rock hits the floor?

Please explain

The rock’s collision with the floor is not elastic. If it were, it would bounce back up in the air. Instead the rock and/or the floor deform slightly, absorbing the energy. So the energy goes into sounds, and into heating the rock and the floor slightly.
