There Are Many Sources Of Financial Aid Available For Special Needs Students
Some students might be more at risk academically than their peer. When certain groups lag behind others, as can happen with students who have disabilities, an achievement gap can exist. Students with disabilities might find that college and university scholarships, and programs offered through federal TRIO grants, can help.
These institutions put the grant money to programs and services especially intended to help at-risk students successfully obtain college and university degrees. TRIO money can go toward projects and services such as tutoring, assistance with study skills and obtaining financial aid, such as scholarships. Many non-profit foundations also make scholarships available to students with disabilities, as well as those with chronic illnesses. From immune deficiencies and asthma to lupus and visual impairments, students with disabilities and chronic illnesses have a number of affliction-specific scholarships to help them pay for a college or university education. Scholarships for some of these afflictions include:
Scholarships for Students who have Autism: Students with autism or Asperger syndrome might find themselves eligible for $3,000 scholarships that are made available as part of the Organization for Autism Research’s Schwallie Family Scholarship Program. Students with autism might also find themselves eligible for offerings provided through the Autism Society of America, such as Outstanding Individual with Autism of the Year awards and a CVS/All Kids Can Scholars program.
Scholarships for Students who have Cystic Fibrosis: Graduating high school seniors and undergraduate students who have cystic fibrosis might find themselves eligible for single- and multiyear undergraduate scholarships that are made available by the Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation. Scholarship awards, which are typically $1,000, are provided based on financial needs, leadership and academic success. Students with cystic fibrosis might also apply for $1,000 to $2,500 scholarships from the Elizabeth Nash Foundation, which are awarded for bachelor’s and graduate degree studies based on financial needs, character and demonstrated service and leadership. In instances where students with cystic fibrosis and financial needs demonstrate academic achievement, creativity and community involvement, along with role model potential, they might receive $2,500 SolvayCARES scholarships from Abbott Pharmaceuticals. After the initial SolvayCARES scholarships are awarded, online voters as part of a Thriving Student Achiever Contest decide on the recipient they think should receive an additional $15,500. Keeping abreast of the latest information about online scholarship may mean quicker success.
Scholarships for Students with Hearing Impairments: The Alexander Graham Bell Association for Deaf and Hard of Hearing offers financial assistance to students ages 21 and younger who are enrolled in a mainstream school program. This same organization offers George H. Nofer Scholarships for Law and Public Policy scholarships for students in full-time law school programs and those in full-time graduate school programs in public policy or administration.
Scholarships for Students with Learning Disabilities and ADHD: The National Center for Learning Disabilities awards Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Scholarships of $10,000 in four annual installments to high school seniors with learning disabilities who plan to work toward a bachelors degree. The Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic awards Marion Huber Learning Through Listening scholarships to high school senior members who have learning disabilities.
Scholarships for Students with Physical Disabilities: The ChairScholars Foundation awards national scholarships of as much as $20,000 to low-income high school seniors and college and university freshmen who have severe physical disabilities. The foundation also has scholarship programs where awards are extended on a more regional basis, to Florida and metropolitan New York students. Researching school scholarships will work in your favor.
When deciding on a college or university, students with disabilities and chronic illnesses might refer to guides that provide information about services and support programs and speak with representatives of the institutions in which they’re interested. Many scholarships also require that colleges and universities are accredited by nationally recognized agencies.

The Three Caballeros (Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection) [VHS] $4.80 As a Disney oddity, they don’t get much odder than Three Caballeros. Donald Duck receives a birthday package from South America, and the film proceeds to unravel like some peyote-induced hallucination. It starts out reminiscent of other Disney films, where shorts are cobbled together, such as “Make Mine Music” or “Fun and Fancy Free.” The film has vignettes such as “The Cold-Blooded Penguin” and “… |
