George Harrison

Why is George Harrison held in such high regard as a lead guitarist?
I’ve been a big Beatles fan for years and have heard all of their songs countless times. I definitely know the band’s material like the back of my hand. I never really understood though why George Harrison is taken so seriously as a guitarist. I haven’t heard him do anything spectacular on lead guitar. I realize he was a Beatle and wrote some fine songs, but as a lead guitarist? Please fill me in and be polite if you can.
George Harrison was the perfect lead guitarist for the Beatles, he could play in a variety of styles, and was technically superb in all of them. He was not flashy, but played to the song. He was held in high regard for his skills more by other musicians, than by the public at large.
