South America is a great place to head for an action packed vacation. Although the airfare can be expensive once you are here, you can choose countries such as Peru that are inexpensive where you can easily get a great meal for next to nothing.
Whether you like kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking, white water rafting or trekking, you can find it in Peru. There is even surfing on the coast. Backpacking from one locale to another is easy. Keep an eye on your leather watch for when the next bus leaves and you are off to the next town down the line.
Even cities are on the casual side in Peru. In a place like Lima, people dress upscale more often but they will not be surprised if you show up at a nice restaurant dressed for a hike. Just keep those brown boots off any coffee tables and you will not have any problems. It is easy to pack light and you can have laundry done cheaply as well.
Even if going to the beach is not on your to-do list, bring along swimwear. There are many hot springs located in various areas of the country. They are a great way to relax your muscles after all the exercising.
Clothing is good to layer for this excursion. The country is large and there are several climates represented. If you are trekking, at least around Cusco, you are likely to be cold at night and in the morning. But as you hike you will warm up fast so it is best to be able to take off outer layers.
If you like your gadgets, a men’s sport watch with altimeter is a very cool thing to have when trekking. You can watch how the altitude changes as you hike to Machu Picchu. The trails tend to go up and down quite a bit.
For outdoors adventures, it is hard to beat a trip to Peru. Make sure your passport is valid, pull out the guidebook and start planning. The only real concern that you need to have is that you will not want to leave.
