Forester Sisters
On average how many miles will a Subaru last?
I know Subaru’s are notably good cars. My sister just bought a 2001 Subaru Forester. It’s a 1 owner car and is in very good condition. Almost looks brand new. Anyways I’m just wondering on average how long those cars will last with good maintenance and not driving it really hard all the time.
I have sold Subarus for about 4 years. I see Subarus at my dealership all the time that are 15-20 years old, have 200-300k miles, and are still running just fine. Subaru’s boxer engine is near-bulletproof, and because of it’s shape and design it will last virtually forever if you take proper care of it. The body itself is likely to fall apart before the powertrain goes bad. Subaru claims 95% of all vehicles they have sold in the last 10 years are still on the road. A perfect example would be a car that I sold myself a couple of months ago. It was a rare 1987 Subaru RX with 215,000 miles, and still ran like a champ! When it sold, it sold for top dollar with no discounts… and it sold quickly.
Subaru has a high-mileage owner’s club. You can go to www.subaruhighmileageclub.com to chat with owners that have high-mileage Subarus. Any Subaru that is already breaking down before 100k miles has probably been driven hard, raced and abused by some young kid that doesn’t really know how to drive a performance car. That doesn’t sound likely with your sister’s 2001 Forester 
Her Forester probably has at least another 10 years of life left in it.
