Fania All

El Cantante?
whos’ going to go watch that when it comes out? I know i am, i luv Hector Lavoe’s music so much, i grew up on it. My parents are from Panama and that is all they would really play in my house most of the time. I’m only 16, but i know so much about Hector Lavoe and the Fania All Stars, well pretty much anything about old school salsa.
I’ll be watching it as well. Like you I grew up on his music. We’re Puerto Rican, so pretty much all day everyday (especially in the summers) the music would be on and it was lots of old school salsa playing. We’d listen to it all, from Tito Puentes, Celia Cruz, Reuben Blades, Willie Colon and of course Hector Lavoe. My mother actually got the chance to see him with the Fania All Stars after he was in the wheelchair. She said that people were crying in the audience because at that point he had become so frail and sick, he couldn’t even sing.
If you like his music, you should really check out a CD called “Quién mató a Héctor Lavoe?” It’s awesome. It was a musical based around his life. While I never saw the musical itself, they released the CD with Domingo Quinones singing for Hector Lavoe. It’s good and it gets constant play in my CD player. I never really liked Domingo Quinones before I heard this album, but he does a really good job. It’s not as good as Hector naturally, but still good nonetheless.
