Eye Columbia
If i have no vision in one eye and 20/30 vision in other eye, does that qualify for disability benefits?

I had cataract surgery when I was 1 1/2 years old and lived with this vision up to now. There is no chance to correct the vision in the dead eye, since this surgery took place in 1969 when technology was not advanced. I have worked my whole life but feel as I get older my remaining vision will deteriorate with old age. Im 43 now and can work but if Im still eligible to collect a benefit, I’d sure like to know. As a side note, i live in British Columbia of Canada if that helps. Thank you for your answers!

Probably not. 20/30 VA isn’t that bad — enough to drive a car and do everyday stuff pretty normally — and having only one eye doesn’t qualify you for disability if the other one works well enough. I don’t know off the top of my head what our limit is here, but I think it’s something like 20/60 to qualify for some help and 20/200 to be ‘legally blind’ and entitled to more.
You are entitled to annual eye exams covered by BC healthcare though, if you weren’t already aware of that. Need to keep your good eye working well and healthy!
