any connection, i was reading the book and it reminded me of the song

Rick Nielsen has mentioned passing references to 1984 in concerts over the years here and there, so we know he is familiar with it, and he probably likes it. (Why else would he mention it). He’s never said that 1984 is directly related to Dream Police, but it probably influenced him.
