The Best Way To Wax Your Snowboard
You’ll need to look after your snowboard well if you’ve forked out the cash to buy one for yourself. One way of doing this is making sure the base is in good condition and waxed well. The reason you wax the board is not to increase grip like on surfboards, it’s instead to make the board more slippery and faster on the slopes. when its been applied the wax embeds itself in the base layer of the snowboard. The wax actually causes the snow to melt under your board when you’re riding so in essence you ride over a very fine layer of water. Here is the advice you need to apply wax the right way
Take off old wax. Before you put on the new wax, make sure the whole board has been cleaned thoroughly. This can be done by scraping it down with a plastic utensil using long strokes. You may want to use a hair-dryer to soften the wax and base cleaner which you can get from a snowboards shop. Do not however use a metal scraper as this can damage the base.
Applying the wax. Get an old iron at try to use a heat that melts your wax at a gentle pace. Set the iron heat to ‘cotton’ as this is usually the ideal level. When the correct temperature has been reached, drip the wax over the base in lines by holding the wax bar against the iron above the board. Now iron the board directly and move it all around so that every inch has a thin wax coating.
Finishing. When the wax has had 30 mins to cool down, you need to finish the base. This basically involves buffing the base down with a clean cloth until it gives off a good shine. Then finally brush over it with a hard-bristled brush and remove and built up areas of wax, before buffing again. Now your ready for a taste of extreme sports
