Kensal Library Under Threat
Government cuts are all over, not just in the USA. It’s happening all around the world: the shut down of great institutions due to lack of government funding. In the Brent section of London, is a little library called Kensal that a lot don’t note. To keep this public library open, it takes too much money, according to the local government.
So why should we care about this establishment in a big city that few go to or know about and is quite little?
Well, it was started by an American, author Mark Twain. Mark Twain opened the Kensal Library in 1900 just 10 years prior to his death. Since then, authors and lecturers from around the world have come to speak at this institution.
People are urging Brent Council to join the fight to tackle this scandal and save Kensal Rise Library, being that the Kensal Green has one of the highest literacy rates in London among children. Artists have been out in force on the campaign trail to save Kensal Rise Library.
Lead singer of Grinderman, Nick Cave is one such activist. He understands how important libraries are to the welfare of a child’s imagination being that he has first hand experience because his mum was a librarian in Australia. Nick has said, “I wholeheartedly pledge my support to the campaign to save Kensal Rise library. Accessible local libraries are vital to communities and to children. Reading fuels passion, interest and ambition – please don’t take that away”.
Perhaps some good SEO services could benefit the institution. They do have quite a good landing page design, but to get more traffic to their site to help them gain more support and money for the institution, SEO services can be better. Great eighties band The Pet Shop Boys, Sinead O’Connor, Moby and Depeche Mode along with authors like fantasy award winning Philip Pullman and Zadie Smith, are a great help, but SEO services could “direct” fans to the actual eBay auction that many can’t find, thus raising more money.
As of Friday July 8th, the courts are stating that the closure of libraries in Gloucestershire County is hurting the poor the most and keeping people from an education that all human beings deserve; therefore, they have granted an injunction until September. Throughout England, there are over 500 libraries that are in peril of being closed permanently. All this has come after 10 months of arguing and more than 80 protests. Proving communities will fight for their right to education and community closeness and that libraries are a treasured part of any society.
