Deep River
Do you know how deep the Metro train runs under the Potomac River on the Orange/Blue lines?
In between Foggy Bottoms-GWU and Rossyln metro stations, the Orange/Blue lines run deep under the Potomac River and then makes a sharp left turn (down South to Rosslyn). Do you know how deep down the metro runs underwater? I’d guess about 30-40 feet?

Rosslyn Station has one of the deepest elevators in the world – probably ranks in the top 10 with Forest Glen Station being #1.
Rosslyn Station is roughly 170 feet below street level and given how Rosslyn sits on a bluff – maybe 100 feet or so, the depth of the Station is 70 feet below sea level. Also remember that the Southbound Blue Line branches off at a higher elevation than the Northbound Blue Line. Thus, the tunnel, which is in solid rock, is way below the Potomac riverbed at a depth of 50-70 feet below sea level.
