Traps

   Posted by: Admin   in Hunter

Crafted traps are expensive but if you need to solo elites they are a must. Even with enough DPS you need time to make good shots and keep morale up.
Use the trap skill and set another trap or multi trap. Then you can throw another trap while in combat. This greatly increments your chance to kill elites even above your level.

In the Haunted Forest, there is a misty, swampy area where there are level 18 bears. This area is a giant circle with about 15-20 bears. Once you hit level 35 or higher, you can farm a fair amount of money by “kiting” these bears together in groups of 4-6 bears and killing them at once.

Before starting, be sure your focus is at 100%. Then stand where you are in bow range of abotu 4-6 bears. Fire one shot at each of them and get them to come to you. Once they are all on top of you, use RAIN OF ARROWS as a nice area-of-effect (AOE) attack. Depending on your level, this will likely kill most of the bears. If not, you will be able to finish them off quickly with melee. Move to the next group and repeat. You can walk around this circle almost endlessly farming medium hides and vendor trash off these bears.

Loot them and collect medium hides and other vendor-trash items. A full stack of some of these vendor-trash items will sell for 8 silver, and you will have multiple stacks of this trash at the conclusion of your farming. In addition, the medium hides that drop will sell for several hundred gold on the auction house (depending on the going rate).

In LOTRO, mounts are available to level 35 players at the cost of 4.2 gold. This is quite a bit of money and is difficult to attain.

One strategy that is guaranteed to work is to choose the profession of EXPLORER (Forester, Prospector, Tailor).

Ignore the TAILOR profession entirely until after you have your mount. While crafting is fun, it can also be expensive. Too many players sink their money in leveling their crafting skills when they should be saving for a mount.

Mine every node of ore and pickup every bundle of wood you come across. Then process them in the crafting hall (so as you level your forestry and prospecting skills), then sell these items on the auction house for the current going rate.

If you do this for 35 levels and avoid the temptation to spend all of your money at the auction house, you will have more than enough money for a mount.

Also remember… you do not need top-of-the-line gear as you are leveling. There is no need to pay for expensive, rare gear items on the auction house when they last only a few levels anyways. Save your money, get your mount, and THEN switch over to whatever crafting professions you choose.

Weapon Speed

Posted by: Admin   in General Gameplay

The lower the number the faster the weapon. A 1.7 speed weapon is faster than a 2.0 speed weapon.
However if you have two weapons 1.7 and 2.0 your effective speed will be the average of those two, in this case 1.7+2.0 = 3.7. 3.7/2 = 1.85 so 1.85 will be your speed for those weapons since there is no individual animation (in auto attacks) for each one.

Selecting just one item from a stack

Posted by: Admin   in General Gameplay

The inventory items are grouped in stacks. Some items allow 15 items stacked (like some food) or 50 for wood, hides, etc. So to select just one or two, or whatever number simply do this:

Press SHIFT and drag and drop the stacked item to an empty inventory cell. A new menu window will appear to ask you how many of those you want to get / split.

In the cases that you have two stacks of something you can use the same feature to add those two together. Works the same as splitting.

Sold an item to a vendor by mistake?

Posted by: Admin   in General Gameplay

If you sold an item to an NPC (Non Player Character or Vendor) you can check the Buyback tab to recover the last 16 sold items at the same price. This will keep the last 16 until you logout.

In the other hand you can click on the Lock icon to lock that item to your inventory. This will prevent selling things like horses since the selling prices is much much lower to the right price so in that case even a buyback will cost you more than 1 silver.

Acorns

Posted by: Admin   in Group Combat, Guardian, Solo Combat

the Guardians can crate Acorns (level 38+). These items are sent my mail to another character who can summon the Guardian to where he / she is.
This will not work if one of the players are in an instance. Anyway both characters need to be near a mailbox to make it work.

More Fellowship Basics

   Posted by: Admin   in Guardian

If you are grouping with a higher level hunter or other class that will deal good DPS tell them to hit the mob after you got the aggro controlled (the mob focused on you)… this generally occurs when the mob is at 60% morale.

Minstrel can get aggro very easy while performing morale buffs also.

Closest target

Posted by: Admin   in Group Combat, Monster Play, Solo Combat

Use the Backspace Key to automatically select the closest target. This is specially useful at the Ettenmoors in crowded areas where you barely know your character form the all others :D

This place is accesible through Mithrenost. Enter the ruins and go south, then west. You will find a bridge. There it is.
