Dinner For Some New Friends
The pale blossoms made a lovely, low centerpiece in the middle of her cherry wood dining room table set. It was too hard to talk when a high centerpiece obstructed your view. On the sides of the centerpiece she place candle holders with pale yellow candles. Stepping back to the doorway, she analyzed the scene and was happy with it. The cushioned chairs and table were perfect.
The gleaming table top was protected with a beige table cloth. The linen napkins were folded to look like swans. All the dishes were carefully chosen. The serving dishes were all part of the same set of china. Everything seemed to be in order and looked beautiful.
She had to be ready to receive her guests at eight o’clock that evening. She showered and came downstairs. She went into the kitchen to check the food. The meat was roasting in the oven and was nearly ready.
She checked the stainless steel rice cooker and found the rice almost ready. She had a lemon cake with glaze for dessert. She loved to bake. She would serve each slice with half a fresh lemon slice on the plate next to it.
She had planned and carried out everything perfectly. Her pale yellow sweater matched the linen slacks she wore. Her earrings were lovely diamond drops. Her blond hair was brushed and curled over her ears. She thought of how ugly the hair of the Emo kids looked. They dyed it pitch black and put streaks of orange down each side. She especially hated the piercings they wore.
She went quickly through the house, putting out guest towels and soap and fluffing couch pillows as she moved. She put fresh dish towels and hot pads in the kitchen. Then she went into her bedroom and started to clear her loft bed with desk. She left her new computer where it was, but put away the clutter of papers and pens. She took one envelope to the mailbox to be picked up.
Finally, she hung up all the clothes she had decided not to wear earlier when she was getting dressed. She put on a bracelet as a last minute addition to her outfit. She checked her appearance in the mirror. With a satisfied smile, she turned to go back to the kitchen and make sure everything was ready. On her way, she heard them ringing the doorbell. Right on time she thought. She loved considerate people.
