I was having problems to see the videos inside LOTRO for God knows what reason. So I’ve found a way to play them in Windows.

You need to download the Bink video player (that plays .bik files) and you are set. Then find the files (usually in Program Files> Turbine > The Lord of the Rings Online > Raw > en. You will find the different videos sorted by folders (like vignette, class videos, etc.

Just remember that outside the game all the videos are unlocked so you may see some spoilers!

To play the files simply right click and choose Open with and then click on Rad Video Tools. Double clicking will open the Lotro Client.

Upgrading to Mines of Moria

Posted by: Admin   in Tech Issues

Some things to do:

  • If you have pre-irdered or if you did the early upgrade you can add the key to your account at http://myaccount.turbine.com to get the items and benefits from pre-ordering.
  • If you bought a digital upgrade you will need to download and install on the same day that LOTRO: MoM launches. If you are awaiting for the pro-order retail box you will need to download the 2.7GB patch and apply it once Turbine announces MoM on the servers.

Players who do not have the expansion on November 18th will have to download the 2.7GB patch and continue playing Shadows of Angmar without the option to enter the new areas.

Always leave at least 2GB free in your hard drive. Performance is not that good when your disk is almost full

Lag Issues

Posted by: Admin   in Tech Issues

Some people reported extreme lag while playing after B12. Check these options to be sure where the problem is:

Memory: WinXP needs 1 GB t work properly with LOTRO. Vista needs 1.5 or even 2. If you have less than this you will need an upgrade.

Disk Defrag: defragment your hard drive, that way data will be more “closer” and the disk will not need to jump all around to find the pieces of information. In extremely fragmented drives (specially if you delete and install lots of things daily) this is a must.

Delete the lotro preferences file (located in the LOTRO folder in My Documents in XP or Documents in Vista).

Reset all options to default.

Try playing with the crowd control and texture cache in the advanced options.

Turn off floaty names by hitting N

UPDATE ALL DRIVERS. Specially video and sound.

Reset your router or cable modem

If you are using a wireless connection check the signal strength.

ATI Driver Crashes

Posted by: Admin   in Tech Issues

If from time to time the lotro screen goes black and the ATI Driver prompts about and error try reseting the graphic options to default using the LOTRO auncher (the windows where the recent messages from turbine and login info shows up).

It worked for me
