Is Amtrak Capitol Limited DC – Pitt – Chicago coach seating comfortable?
I’ll be on the Amtrak Capitol Limited on my way from Union Station in DC to northeast Ohio here to visit relatives. What the heck is the seating like on these trains? Only trains I have been on are the DC Metro, mono-rail at Epcot/Disney when I was a kid & another stupid train at an amusement park.
These things easy to sleep on?
Should I fight for a window seat?
Better to sit at the front or rear of train?
Anywhere I can just see pictures of the interior before I ride?
Oh the Capitol has superliners now. They’re pretty coosh.
Nothing like you’ve ever ridden in before. The seats fold way back and there’s leg rests. They’re made to sleep in.
Now, the train also has a dome-lounge-cafe and a full service dining car. Spend at least half your waking hours NOT in your seat. Walk down and enjoy the lounge and the scenery, especially in the morning.
Do not eat the microwave 7-11 cafe food because there’s a Real Dining Car right next to the cafe that serves sit down meals cooked to order. The dining car does not have a microwave or a fryer, it’s real food baked or grilled. Prices are (out the door total) $8-ish for breakfast, $9-ish for lunch and $18-ish for dinner. If you’re cheap, bring dinner with you from the Union Station food court before you board, but definitely make a point to enjoy breakfast in the diner. Nothing could be finer!
