Buddy Knox

Would you ever name your child a ‘celebrity’ name?
You know the ones. The whole Jolie-Pitt clan (Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, Zahara, Knox and Vivienne), little Suri Cruise, Gwenyth Paltrow’s Apple, Isla Fischer’s Olive, Jamie Oliver’s Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, Petal Blossom Rainbow and Buddy Bear, the list goes on!
So I was wondering, would any of you ever consider naming your child like that? What’s the worst celebrity baby name you’ve heard? What’s the best? Would you use any of the more conservative names used by our fave celebs?
I personally never, ever would! I think it’s mean to give a child such an outrageous name, especially as a first name. I might consider a more unorthadox name as a middle name, but I would stick to normal first names. I like a few of the more conservative names, like Jennifer Garner’s daughter Violet, and maybe Brangelina’s Vivienne, but on the whole, I think I’ll stay away from Hollywood!
It depends on the name, I guess. I’d never name my child something ridiculous like Moxie Crimefighter, and I probably wouldn’t use something ultimately distinctive as a ‘celebrity baby name’ (a la Suri or Maddox), however I would use something like Poppy, Daisy or Olive that isn’t just seen as a celebrity baby name.
A lot of my favourite names are donned by celebrity babies, and I’d still use them. Beatrix, Iris, Violet, Clementine, Tallulah, Florence, Caspar, Milo, Oliver, Jude… I could go on! One celebrity or another has given one of these names to their child, but I don’t think they’re ultimately tied to that child at all; they have history and other namesakes.
Essentially for me it comes down to usage. When people hear ‘Apple’ or ‘Pax’ or ‘Zuma’, most would instantly connect them as celeb baby names, and not much else, whereas a name like Beatrix or Violet or Jude is used wider, and has more history behind it.. does that make sense lol?
Sorry for the rambling.. I’m not feeling particularly coherent tonight!!
