Brubeck Quartet

Why was did Paul Desmond write Take Five?
1)Why did Paul Desmond write Take 5?
2)Why did he choose to wirte Take 5 in 5/4 measure?
3)What was Dave Brubeck Quartet’s project at the time Take 5 was written?
Common belief has it that that Paul Desmond was inspired to write Take Five while sitting at slot machines in Reno. Apparently the noise of the machines created a 5/4 rhythm. The project at the time was the album “Time Out,” which includes many explorations in different time signatures. All of the songs were written by Brubeck except “Take Five.” I’ve seen Take Five listed as a Dave Brubeck composition in professional concert settings, which is kind of sad. “Time Out” is an absolutely gorgeous album. “Strange Meadow Lark” is my favorite; you should definitely give the album a listen
