Masters of Blues Guitar
It is not uncommon for guitar players of all abilities to have certain masters of guitar that they look up to and try to emulate.
Given the amazing number of combinations at play when creating sound from an electric guitar, copying an individual player exactly is virtually impossible.
The choice of amplifiers, individual tone settings on the guitar pickups, even the choice of strings and even perhaps the way they tune their guitar – all these variables contribute to the particular sound that a great player produces.
Two masters of guitar immediately come to mind when one considers the Blues genre of music and those two are John Lee Hooker and BB King.
A particularly fantastic guitar that is uniquely associated with BB King is the Epiphone BB King Lucille designed originally by Gibson. As well as being absolutely gorgeous to look at, it also has some very cool features such as stereo and Varitone .
BB King is the penultimate performer playing to audiences in most years, nearly every night of the week, and this living legend is well into his 70’s.
You can’t help but be inspired by BB King’s commitment to the blues music and to his avid fans all over the globe. Follow BB’s lead and you can keep performing for audiences at your rest home!
A second wicked guitar for blues players is the Epiphone Sheraton II as used by John Lee Hooker .
John Lee lived the archetypal life of a blues player – born to poor sharecroppers in the deep south, he worked and played guitar through the depression era, WWII, and began to record in the late 40’s. His real fame came in the late 70’s with his hit album ‘The Healer’ and he featured in the cult movie “The Blues Brothers”. Sadly John Lee Hooker died in 2001.
In the early part of his career John Lee predominantly played acoustic guitar but he moved to electric in the late 1940’s and began using the Epiphone Sheraton II in the mid 6o’s.
The quality of guitars produced as reissues of those used by guitar greats is significantly very high and the aim is generally to respect the name or memory of the player.
Being the owner of such guitars provides a guitarist an opportunity to get a feel for the guitar equipment that the blues legends used.
