How to train my 15-week old Blue Tick Beagle?
I just got my Blue Tick Beagle (Little Bear!) today, and I want to teach him some basic commands (sit, lay down, speak etc.), as well as house train him. How should I go about training him? I’ve heard Beagles can be stubborn at times, and being a puppy he gets bored and is easily distracted. Any tips?
With him I’d suggest to use his “nose drive” for the obedience instructions. Start immediately, especially with walking, because they’re famous for being very easily distracted by scents and whatnot. This doesn’t meant that they are not intelligent dogs, but you have to work with him.
Potty training, nothing special here, just make sure you have a schedule that he knows, walk him religiously at least twice/day, lots of praise when he does it, and ignore the accidents. It helps if you have a backyard where he can go between walks if need be. Must make sure he’s not alone in the backyard, stay with him. Praise him when he pees, then play with him for a bit, and back in the house. If left alone he might develop habits that you might not like
