Bent Fabric
I have some halloween fabric to make some wings with. Can anyone suggest something to make the frame from?

I had thought maybe some thin metal rods, that I could bend into the shape I want. But the cheapest I have found is £2.43 for 100cm. And I want big wings – so that’s going to cost me about £17!! I found some cheaper coils of metal wire, but that doesn’t hold it’s shape. Can anyone suggest anything?

I was just shopping for something like this, too.

You’re going to want a single strand wire. I bought about 2 meters of insulated copper electrical wire for my project. It was very stiff, about 14 or 12 gauge. It was more expensive that I wanted it to be.

After buying it I found galvanized wire in the section of the hardware store that sells stuff for hanging art on the walls. Galvanized wire costs less than copper and also does not rust. It feels sort of weird and dirty, and emits toxic fumes under very high heats (unlikely to happen to you).

I’ve also worked with very thin fiberglass rods, which I purchased at a store that sells plastic products to consumers. Fiberglass bends, but doesn’t hold the shape: it wants to spring back to the straight rod shape. So you would have to create channels in your wings that would hold the rods in place. It’s a great material to use if you need something that can bounce and flex. When you cut it, wrap the rod with masking tape and cut with a wood saw. The masking tape will prevent splintering.
