Why were the august decrees passed during the night?

The process took almost a week and was more arduous than the deputies expected. The first sitting of the National Assembly on 4 August 1789 intended to reform French society and provide a basis for new laws. It was a rushed start and the sitting continued through the night hoping that a final set of degrees could be formulated. In fact, only 6 of the decrees were in a finished form by morning and the Assembly adjourned until the afternoon.
Late in July 1789, reports of the peasants’ revolt had come to Paris from every part of France. As a matter of urgency, the National Assembly decided to pass reforming regulations to pacify the peasants and give them a basis for community harmony. By the morning of the 5 August, the National Assembly had agreed wording only to abolish the feudal system and eliminate clerical and aristocratic rights and privileges.
The full set of nineteen decrees was finally published a week later on 11 August 1789.
