Altered Images
Image on Tshirt based on altered image from an original photo or screengrab infringeing copyright?
I want to create a series of T shirts for a small fan site. The images are created from photos of the pop star or on screen grabs from videos. There are already drawings/paintings for sale on that site (not made by me) obviously based upon existing amd well known photographs. Will the images on my T shirts infringe copyright as they are so altered and not a straight copy/paste from existing images ?
Altering an image does not remove the protection of the copyright. The owner still owns it.
Careful, there are lawyers making a business of surfing and looking for purloined images on the internet. And they have the teeth and the right. They rarely lose.
